Massage therapy - continuing education classes
Educational classes are available for LMT's for Nebraska continuing education credits. All classes are taught by Michele Helaney, BS, LMT, NCTMB. Michele is a licensed massage therapist in the state of Nebraska and Ohio as well as nationally certified through the NCTMB. She has spent her career practicing massage therapy in the medical/hospital setting as well as teaching students of massage, and understands the importance of giving the student a learning experience that is useful and can be used in their everyday practice.
Below are just a few the classes offered through Omaha Blue Waves on a regular basis.
- Cupping For Massage - This class teaches one of methods of using oriental cups to massage the body with gentle suction. This is a great modality to utilize when a deeper tissue massage is indicated and the therapist wants a less invasive option that is easier on the client. NEXT CLASS: Saturday June 23, 2012 12:30 to 5:30 PM and Sunday June 24, 2012 8:30 AM to 4:30 AM. (1 hour lunch) - 1 1/2 day introductory class to massage cupping. This class utilizes the ancient art of massage cupping in combination with modern therapeutic massage techniques to create a truly useful modality for practicing massage therapists. - Basic Shiatsu - This is an introductory class to Japanese finger pressure therapy. Students will learn to utilize basic meridian pressure point manipulation to help the body regain an internal balance. NEXT CLASS: Saturday April 14, 2012 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM (1 hour lunch) and Sunday April 15, 2012. 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM - 1 1/2 introductory class to basic Shiatsu massage. - Introduction to Medical Massage (Phase I) - This class teaches basic massage therapy techniqes to help treat specific problems such as sciatica, TMJ, fibromyalgia, etc. within the confines of a hospital or institutional setting. Special attention will be directed to protocols and contraindications that must be observed when dealing with patients confined to bed due to illness and/or injuries. NEXT CLASS: Saturday August 11, 2012 12:30 PM to 5:30 PM and Sunday August 12, 2012 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. (1 hour lunch) - 1 1/2 day introductory class to medical massage. - Sports Massage - This class teaches basic massage therapy techniqes to help treat atheletes and the active client. Special attention will be helping clients improve sore muscles, flexiblity, and performance through specialized massage techniques. A great addition to any therapist's tool box. To receive Early Bird Discounts you must call for instructions. On-line registration is NOT discounted. REFUND POLICY- Omaha Blue Waves will not refund fee's for missed classes. Those students providing at least 48 hours notice prior to the start of a class they are registered for will receive a class credit that must be used within one year from the date of the class they registered to attend. Students who must miss a registered class due to an emergency should contact Omaha Blue Waves as soon as possible to request a class credit. All credits are made at the descretion of the instructor.
